Diakonia: Climate and Environment Advisor

Do you want to work with climate and environment in an international organization that makes a difference? Diakonia is now looking for an advisor to integrate environment in the organization and to strengthen climate change adaptation, resilience and empowerment of the most vulnerable.

Temporary position for 2 years, with possibility of extension

Diakonia is a Swedish non-profit and independent organization for international development cooperation and humanitarian assistance. Diakonia supports over 400 partner organisations in 25 countries – in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Diakonia operates on feminist principles and a human rights-based approach. The basis for our work is people’s will to improve and change the world. Our focus areas are human rights, democracy and gender equity.

Role & responsibilities:

As Climate and Environment Advisor your overall responsibility is to help Diakonia develop competence and impact on environmental integration, climate and resilience. Some key areas are:

  • Environmental mainstreaming and integration
  • Integrate a feminist perspective
  • Program development and quality assurance
  • Learning and knowledge development
  • Global monitoring and reporting
  • Networking and alliance building
  • Support to fundraising

Your work is based on the specific contexts where we operate, in which you sustain a human rights-based approach and the perspective of people living in poverty. You collaborate closely with Diakonia staff in the countries where we operate and in Sweden, as well as with external stakeholders.

Experience & qualifications

We are looking for an experienced advisor within environment, climate and resilience. To be successful in the role we believe that you have:

  • Experience in development work, including international postings
  • Experience as advisor and/ or expert on environment, climate and/or resilience
  • Experience in program design, monitoring, and learning
  • University degree in sustainable development, environmental or climate studies or other relevant area
  • You speak and write English fluently
  • As a person you are solution oriented, flexible, analytical, service-minded and a good team player

This is a plus

  • Fundraising experience
  • Proficiency in Swedish, Spanish, French, Arabic or Portuguese
